About The Sudbury Institute Club

The Sudbury Institute Club is a friendly members’ social club in the heart of Sudbury, Suffolk. Now based at The Old Press Rooms, 54 Station Road, the club provides a welcoming place for members to meet, relax and enjoy good company. With a licensed bar, snooker tables, pool, bar billiards, darts, regular entertainment and social events, it continues to offer the traditional warmth of a local club while serving members of all ages.

Founded in 1834, the Sudbury Institute Club is one of the oldest surviving members’ clubs in East Anglia and has been part of Sudbury’s social life for nearly two centuries. The club’s earlier home was on Market Hill, in a building now recorded by Historic England as the Former Sudbury Institute Club, a Grade II listed building first listed in 1971. That link with Market Hill places the club firmly within the town’s historic centre and reflects its long-standing role in Sudbury community life.

Today, the club continues that tradition from its Station Road premises, known locally as The Old Press Rooms. The building forms part of Sudbury’s wider Victorian townscape, and 54–55 Station Road is noted locally as dating from 1867. This gives the club a fitting home in another building with strong local character and history.

We are proud to be part of Sudbury’s community, offering a relaxed and sociable environment where members can enjoy conversation, games, entertainment and events. Whether visiting for a quiet drink, a game of snooker or darts, or one of the club’s social evenings, members and guests can expect a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere.

The club is also well regarded by real ale drinkers, with CAMRA noting its well-kept ales, changing guest beers and annual beer festival, which is open to non-members.
